Medicare Australia card holders or individuals with private health insurance may qualify for fee rebates for therapy sessions. Check your eligibility BEFORE your session. Your Medicare Australia psychology rebate can be used for up to 10 psychologist sessions per calendar year. If there is a ‘Gap Fee’, full payment for the session is required, and Medicare will reimburse the rebate directly to your account.

What are the important considerations when it comes to Telehealth services?

Take note of the following:

  • Audio-only services may be offered via telephone if video is not feasible.
  • Telehealth services can be provided through commonly available video calling applications and software such as Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Duo, GoToMeeting, and other platforms.
  • Clients must provide their consent for Telehealth services.
  • Telehealth services are to be provided only when it is safe and clinically appropriate to do so.
  • The MBS Telehealth services are applicable solely for non-admitted patients.

Video telehealth services can offer individuals, families, and emergency response personnel the convenience of obtaining counselling and support remotely, with Medicare rebates available for eligible sessions for individuals affected by bushfires. Telehealth services are particularly beneficial for those facing difficulty to access mental health professionals in person, having experienced a recent trauma due to a bushfire and feeling isolated due to location.

Yes, you can make an appointment without a GP referral. For private health insurance holders, check in advance regarding the amounts you can claim for psychological therapy. We advise you to contact your insurer in advance to obtain information on eligible therapy and treatments and, their respective claimable amounts.

To qualify for NDIS, clients must meet the following requirements:

  • Be below 65 years of age
  • Have a permanent disability that is likely to be lifelong
  • Have a significant disability that substantially affects their daily activities

It would be helpful to provide relevant information from doctors, healthcare professionals, support groups, networks, or other individuals to determine the necessary therapeutic support. Additionally, NDIS participants must complete a Service Agreement. We welcome both plan-managed and self-managed participants.
